NEA Family Donates to TSTA's Hurricane Ike Relief Fund
The National Education Association’s Health Information Network (NEA
HIN) Disaster Relief Fund on Friday morning presented the Texas State
Teachers Association with a $50,000 donation to TSTA’s Hurricane Ike
Relief Fund.

TSTA Creates Fund to Aid Members Hit by Ike
TSTA is collecting funds specifically to assist our members hit by Hurricane
Ike. The money collected will go to TSTA members to help them get through this
difficult time. The Hurricane Ike Relief Fund is not an IRS recognized
charitable fund and money contributed to this fund is not automatically tax
deductible. We can accept contributions from individuals, locals, corporations,
charitable organizations and unions. To make a contribution to this fund, please
mail a check to: TSTA Hurricane Ike Relief Fund,316 W.12th St., Austin, TX 78701.

stories and photographs with us so we can consider running them in the

Other Relief Funds Offer Tax Deductibility
Members who would like to make an automatically tax deductible contribution
should consider going to either the
American Red Cross
or the
Salvation Army. Please designate your contribution for Hurricane Ike
relief.
Information for Voters in Areas Hit by Hurricane Ike
Voters displaced by Hurricane Ike may not be certain of their future living
arrangements, either short or long term. Voters who have been displaced have
several options for voting in the November election, according to the Elections
Division of Texas secretary of state's office.

Districts Hit by Ike Can Obtain Surplus Federal Property
School districts in the 29 declared counties that have been touched by Hurricane
Ike may be eligible for surplus federal equipment such as vehicles, chairs,
desks, filing cabinets, tractors, heavy equipment and woodworking and
metalworking equipment.

Unemployment Benefits for School Employees Hit by Ike
Employees whose school districts have notified them that they will not be paid
because of school closures in the wake of Hurricane Ike may be entitled to
unemployment benefits. People who worked in Angelina, Austin, Brazoria,
Chambers, Cherokee, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Houston,
Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Newton,
Orange, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Trinity, Tyler, Walker, Waller
and Washington counties who are out of work due to storms and flooding caused by
Hurricane Ike may be eligible for Unemployment Insurance and/or Disaster
Unemployment Assistance.
