NEA Representative Assembly Information  

The NEA Representative Assembly (RA) will be held in Washington, D.C., July 3-6, 2008. The first Texas Caucus meeting will be on July 1.

Delegates should check with your Regional or Local president to determine if there is funding assistance from those sources. Additionally TSTA state delegates may receive a small stipend to help offset expenses, provided they comply with applicable attendance and financial prerequisites. Detailed information will be included in your delegate materials.

Physically challenged delegates who may require special transportation or equipment at the NEA_RA must complete the NEA “Physically Challenged Needs Assessment Form” (http://www.regonline.com/PC_request_form). NEA must receive the form by June 1, 2008.

Pre-Annual Meeting Events:

  • June 26-29--Annual NEA Student Leadership Conference
  • June 27-29--NEA-Retired Annual Meeting
  • (register online at www.nea.org/retired)
  • June 28-29--23rd Annual Joint conference on Concerns of Minorities and Women
    (limited to 800 pre-registered delegate members and 100 pre-registered non-delegate members)
    July 1--1st Texas Caucus Meeting (1:00 pm – 4:00 pm)
  • July 2--42nd Annual Human and Civil Rights Awards Dinner
    (tickets sold on a first come, first served basis until May 19 or until sold out)
  • Friendship night will take place on July 3rd at the convention center from 8:00 pm to midnight.

Child care services are available at the convention center at the following times:
July 1 and 2 6:30 am – 6:30 pm
July 3 – 6 6:30 am – one-half hour after conclusion of the Representative Assembly (RA).

Space is limited to approximately 25 children. Penalties apply for late pick-up of children. Snacks will be provided twice a day, but delegates must provide lunch and dinner (either bring a meal or pre-order). Delegates are responsible for transportation of children to the child care site and must pre-register for this service, particularly if service is required before 8:30 am. Further questions should be directed to the child care provider (Camp NEA/ACCENT on Children’s Arrangements) at 504-524-0188.

Lodging for Texas delegates is at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA.

Hotel reservations should be made through TSTA’s Center for Executive and Governance (CEG) rather than through the hotel in order for delegates to be included in the TSTA room block. Your lodging request form and first night’s room & tax deposit must be received at TSTA by May 26, 2008. The room rate per night is:

$159 single/double occupancy (with tax totals $178.48)
$179 triple occupancy (with tax totals $200.93)
$199 quad occupancy (with tax totals $223.38).
