Social Security Watch
There are two bills currently in Washington--HR 82 by
Berman and McKeon and S 206 by Feinstein and Collins--that would
eradicate the unfair Social Security offset and windfall penalties
levied on teachers and professional staff. Watch NEA's website for
the latest information.

Our
calendar for the new school year
has been posted, and we are in the process of updating other areas
of this website.
NEA-R Annual
Meeting: 450 Participants!
The 2007 NEA-Retired Annual Meeting in Philadelphia was our largest
annual meeting to date with over 450 participants. The speakers and
workshops provided information that was helpful to us as association
leaders as well as in our personal lives. The meeting theme was
"Reflecting on the Past, Building for the Future."
Extreme Makeover in Pennsylvania
This was the 12th year NEA-Retired and Student members joined other
local volunteers to paint, clean, repair, landscape, decorate
bulletin boards, and more. Over 350 retired and student members
donned orange shirts and went to work refurbishing Gotwals
Elementary School in Norristown, PA. We anticipate some very
surprised and happy faces when school reopens in the fall. To see
some of the media coverage we received visit the NEA-Retired website
http://www.nea.org/retired/index.html.
