TSTA-STUDENT PROGRAM STATE CONVENTION
The
annual State Convention of the Texas State Teachers Association-Student
Program is held in the spring. Information pertaining to the convention will be mailed to each local
in January.
OUTREACH TO TEACH - TEXAS
Outreach to
Teach - Texas is a school supplies drive started by the Executive Board of
TSTA-SP. Each local and district organization can collect school
supplies for students in their areas that have a financial need. The
supplies will be collected throughout the year and distributed through the
local student program chapters. For more information
contact a TSTA-Student Program officer.
TSTA HOUSE
OF DELEGATES STATE CONVENTION
The TSTA State Convention provides an opportunity for TSTA-SP members to observe and
participate in the action of the state association. Workshops and agenda
will be available on the TSTA web site's calendar section and in the TSTA
Advocate magazine. The number of TSTA-SP delegates is based on the TSTA-SP membership
on May 31 of the preceding year – one delegate for each seventy-five
members. Delegates will be elected at the TSTA-SP
Convention.
NEA STUDENT
PROGRAM LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE
The NEA Student
Leadership Training Workshop is the annual meeting of the student NEA
delegates to the NEA Representative Assembly and is held in June of each
year preceding the NEA Representative Assembly. This leadership
workshop is held in the same city and state as the NEA RA. Featured will be workshops,
speakers, and training sessions and business. All members are encouraged to
attend and interact with participants from across the United States.
Delegates who will represent Texas are elected on a statewide ballot,
which is sent to each local for individual members to vote. One delegate is
elected for the first fifty student members and a second delegate when the
membership reaches 750 and an additional delegate for each 500 members
thereafter. The allocation shall be on the basis of membership received at
TSTA Headquarters as of March 15 of the year of the NEA Representative
Assembly.
National
Education Association Representative Assembly
The NEA Representative Assembly, attended by more than 10,000 delegates each year, is one of
the most fascinating and memorable opportunities afforded by membership in
TSTA-SP. TSTA-SP is
allocated delegates to the NEA Representative Assembly on the ratio of one
delegate for the first 50 members, a second delegate when the membership
reaches 750 and an additional delegate for each 500 members thereafter. The
allocation shall be on the basis of membership received at TSTA Headquarters
as of March 15 of the year of the NEA Representative Assembly.
