The NEA-Dallas Member Advocacy Team continues to serve our members in concert with the TSTA Help Center and Legal Services. Services from all three entities is available to any NEA-Dallas member.

Our Member Advocacy Team believes in enabling members to be proactive in protecting their rights.

DISD Policies/Procedures: All DISD policies can be accessed through the district’s web site.  From the main menu, select “Inside DISD,” then “Board of Trustees,” and “Board Policy Online”  A link is provided to the Texas Association of School Boards server, which contains all DISD Board policies.  From this server, you can look up policies by key words or policy number. 

Here are some issues that all members need to be aware of:

PDAS Evaluations: Grievances have been filed on behalf of members who had TAKS results directly affecting all categories of their PDAS evaluation.  Beware of such attempts at an end-run around TEA guidelines for PDAS.

Remember, your Teacher Self-Report, Part I can be amended.

Leveling Reassignments: District Policy clearly states that selections for reassignment due to leveling are to be done by seniority with the district.

Sick Leave and Personal Time: Situations have arisen where teachers were reported as being absent for multiple days by their building administrators when they were, in fact, at work.  Fortunately, these situations, when caught, have been worked out by payroll.  We advise all employees to review their leave balance every pay period and report discrepancies.  Since sign-in sheets are now going to be obsolete, it will be important for all employees to keep track of their own absences and challenge any additional time taken from their sick leave balance.
