Haiti in Chaos: How You
Can Help Victims and Explain Earthquake to Your Students
Around the
world, people are asking how they can help Haitians recover
from the devastating earthquake that killed thousands -- and
stands to kill more as medical care, food, and water are
scarce. Here is some information that may be helpful to you
and your local members.
Donations can be made to The
International Fund of the Red Cross to assist the relief
effort. You
can contribute
online to the Red Cross, or donate $10 to be charged
to your cell phone bill by texting "HAITI" to "90999."
NEA is collecting
donations for the Education International Solidarity
Fund that will be targeted to our sister union in Haiti,
the Coération National des EnseignantsHti (CNEH),
and the members and their families who have lost
everything at home and at their schools. The donations
will also help rebuild the union. If you would like to
make a contribution, please send a check payable to NEA,
ATTN: Haiti Relief Effort, 1201 16th Street
NW, Washington, DC 20036.
The U.S. State Department asks Americans seeking
information about family members in Haiti to call
