Local & Uncontested Calendar

Today, the Senate passed House Bill 1682 by Rep. Weber on the Local & Uncontested Calendar. HB 1682 prohibits school board members or other school district employees from coercing another employee to make or refrain from making a contribution to a charitable organization or in response to a fundraiser or to attend a meeting called for the purpose of soliciting charitable contributions.

The Social Security Fairness Act, which fully repeals GPO/WEP, has strong bipartisan support in both chambers. This week, the House Ways and Means Committee is holding a hearing on the issue.

#GradingTexas blog: #txed Commissioner Mike Morath was flippant to the point of being disrespectful when, in an appearance before the SBOE, he blamed school districts for the rising number of uncertified teachers entering the profession.
